Served in U.S. Navy, 1942-46 (inactive duty as lieutenant, U.S. Naval Reserve, 1946-49). Member, American and Maryland State Bar Associations; American College of Trial Lawyers. Board of Trustees, The Johns Hopkins University, 1976 - . Chair, Walters Art Gallery, 1979-85 (chair emeritus, 1985 - ; president, 1964-79).
